Five individuals have died and no less than 40 were harmed after an assailant drove an car along an pavement in Westminster, stabbed a policeman and was shot dead by police in the grounds of Parliament.

The dead officer has been named as PC Keith Palmer, 48, a spouse and father.

PM Theresa May said the assault was “sick and depraved” and struck at estimations of freedom, democracy and the right to speak freely.

She paid tribute to the “exceptional men and women” of the police force who responded to the attack, saying: “We will all move forward together, never giving in to terror and never allowing the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart.”

The aggressor has not been named by police.

Acting Deputy Commissioner and head of counter terrorism at the Metropolitan Police, Mark Rowley, said they think they know his identity and that he was motivated by international and Islamist-related terrorism, however gave no further points of details.
